Mom, Dad

Mom, Dad sit down and listen

I’m leaving tomorrow sometime

I won’t hear any objections

Believe me I’ve made up my mind

Next month I’ll be three years from twenty

Don’t cry mom, I’ll make out just fine

Thank God I’m out of that damn house

And my folks are out of my way

Yes to the city and thanks for the ride

No I don’t know where I’m going to stay

And who said the climate was warm here in May

Things weren’t supposed to work out this way

And I’m knockin on strange doors

Sleeping on hard floors

And singing these lonesome old songs

And I’m taking what’s free

And not giving from me

Ad I can’t help but think that’s wrong

Mom, Dad I’m calling to tell you

That everything’s working out fine

I got me a girl who’s so gentle and sweet

She stays happy most all of the time

And if you’re in town and want to stop by

I don’t think I’d really mind

We’ve not been together for such a long time
