Join Livingston Taylor this August for a Retreat in Beverly MA

Greetings from Liv Taylor HQ,

Spring is in full bloom and Livingston is so glad to be back on the road. We are extremely excited about this August's "Livingston Taylor's The Master's Class" Retreat at Endicott College's ocean-front campus, located just 30 miles North of Boston.

After decades of teaching at Berklee, Harvard, The Frost School at U Miami, Tulane in New Orleans, Old Town School of Folk in Chicago, Club Passim in Cambridge, and many other locations, such as China and Ireland, Livingston is known as one of the premier teachers of stage performance, songwriting, and fear-free presentations.

Joining Livingston are two amazing, nationally-known musicians, Melissa Ferrick and Peter Mulvey, who combined have 60 years of experience as professional songwriters and touring musicians at the top level of the singer-songwriter world. As a bonus, the retreat will also have guest instructor Kemp Harris: a musician, actor, activist, author, and storyteller, and an award-winning educator. Livingston's manager Ralph Jaccodine, who has been managing artists for over 30 years and teaching in the Music Business department at Berklee for 10 years, will be joined by his partner Brittany Bethune to host a workshop on music business 101 and both will be the on-site coordinators of the retreat.

The retreat includes 3 full days of exciting workshops and sessions taught by professionals with decades of experience of moving audiences with their songs and vision. Sessions will laser focus on songwriting, singing, speaking, and confident, fear-free presentations — all a 5-minute walk to the ocean. This will result in a dramatic improvement of the stage experience for both you and your audience — whether it be a music venue, open mic appearance, classroom, or corporate boardroom — the outcome will significantly grow your confidence, as well as dramatically improve your performance and songwriting.

Here's what's included:

  • Access to all workshops, master classes & group activities on stage performance, songwriting, music business, & more.
  • Ample time for songwriting, co-writing, and socializing
  • 3 nights of lodging in an air-conditioned private bedroom dormitory with shared common areas & kitchenettes.
  • Bedding, towels, shampoo & conditioner included.
  • 9 meals, snacks, coffee, etc.
  • Picturesque Endicott campus with lush landscaping just minutes from the Atlantic.
  • Parking.
  • Access to Endicott's recreational facilities & gymnasium.

We are looking forward to the extensive knowledge and expertise all of these instructors will bring to the 2022 Livingston Taylor Retreat, so we are offering a $100 discount for those who sign up between now and the end of April.

Melisssa Ferrick
Melissa Ferrick is a Professor of the Practice at Northeastern University in the Music Industry Department. They've released seventeen albums over the last twenty-five years and have won numerous awards for songwriting, production, and performance. From 2013 - 2019, Melissa was an Associate Professor of Songwriting at Berklee College of Music. They hold an Ed.M from Harvard University. Regarded in the industry and by their peers as one of the most prolific and hardworking artists in the business, Ferrick still tours regularly playing throughout North America. They have shared the stage with Morrissey, Joan Armatrading, Weezer, Tegan and Sara, Mark Cohen, Paul Westerberg, Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, Ani DiFranco, k.d.Lang, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, and many others.

Peter Mulvey
Peter Mulvey has been a songwriter, road-dog, raconteur, and almost-poet since before he can remember. Twenty records, one illustrated book, thousands of live performances, a TEDx talk, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp, opening for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco, Emmylou Harris, and Chuck Prophet, appearances on NPR, an annual autumn tour by bicycle, emceeing festivals, hosting his own boutique festival (the Lamplighter Sessions, in Boston and Wisconsin)… Mulvey never stops. He has built his life’s work on collaboration and on an instinct for the eclectic and the vital. He folds everything he encounters into his work: poetry, social justice, scientific literacy, and a deeply abiding humanism are all on plain display in his art.

Kemp Harris
Kemp Harris defies categorization. He is a singer and songwriter; a master weaver of American musical styles. He’s also an actor, activist, author, and storyteller, and an award-winning educator who taught young public school students for more than 40 years. Kemp has acted in numerous films and TV shows such as SMILF (Showtime), and is comfortable sharing the stage with artists such as Taj Mahal, Koko Taylor, and Gil Scott-Heron, as well as performing shows with his smokin' band. Kemp has also composed for WGBH Public Television/Boston. Kemp's powers of observation, his unique gift for shining a light on our modern world and what it means to be alive in these times, have only deepened over a lifetime devoted to the most basic and profound of pursuits, genuine human connection.
